Emissions Factors & Methodology
Q: What emissions factors does Zeigo Activate use to calculate carbon emissions?
Zeigo Activate uses a hybrid methodology incorporating both activity-based and spend-based emissions factors from globally recognized sources. The table below outlines current factor sources by scope and category:
GHGP Scope | Emissions Sources | Main Emissions Factors Datasets Used |
---|---|---|
Scope 1 | Fuels | UK GOV. DESNZ (ex-DEFRA) |
Refrigerants | IPCC 6th Assessment Report | |
Scope 2 | Electricity, Heat, Steam, Cooling | IEA EU RE-DISS US e-Grid UK GOV. DESNZ (ex-DEFRA) |
Scope 3 | Fuels & Distance | UK GOV. DESNZ (ex-DEFRA) |
Waste | US EPA GHG Emission Factors Hub | |
Spending | US EPA Supply Chain GHG Emissions Factors |
Q: Is the methodology aligned with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol?
Yes. All emissions calculations adhere to the GHG Protocol, including the Corporate Standard and Scope 3 Calculation Guidance.
Q: Does Zeigo Activate support Scope 3 emissions?
Yes. Zeigo Activate currently supports several Scope 3 categories. All categories will be rolled out by the end of 2025.
Q: How does Zeigo Activate calculate Scope 2 electricity emissions (location-based vs. market-based)?
Zeigo Activate supports both methodologies in compliance with GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance:
- Location-based: Applies regional or national average grid emission factors, irrespective of energy procurement choices.
- Market-based: Incorporates contractual instruments such as Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs), Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), or green tariffs. Residual mix factors are used for any portion not covered by renewable sources.
Security & Data Privacy
Q: How is customer data secured?
Zeigo Activate adheres to Schneider Electric’s global information security policies. Schneider Electric is committed to protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of customer data. We adopt a Defense-In-Depth approach by implementing required security controls (physical, technical, and administrative) to safeguard environments, customer data and customer access into the environments. Data in Transit is protected using TLS 1.2 or higher and Data at Rest is protected using AES-256 encryption standards.
Q: Where is data stored?
All Zeigo Activate data is stored in a Microsoft Azure-hosted SQL Database (Azure SQL Database). Data residency and storage are managed in accordance with Schneider Electric’s global data governance policies and regional compliance requirements.
Q: Who has access to my data?
Only authorized users within your organization and Schneider Electric’s support staff (when explicitly required) have access. Zeigo does not share or sell data to third parties without your consent.
Q: Can data be exported?
Yes. All emissions data, targets, and progress reports can be exported into structured formats (e.g., Excel, PDF) for internal use.
Product Capabilities & Access
Q: How long does onboarding take?
Most organizations can begin using the platform within 1–2 hours. Guided onboarding, in-app tooltips, and contextual help are available to streamline setup.
Q: What input data is required?
- Scope 1 & 2: Energy bills, fuel consumption data, facility-level activity data
- Scope 3: Spend-based and activity-based inputs will be supported
Q: Can multiple users access the platform?
Yes. Organizations can assign multiple users with configurable roles, including viewer, editor, and administrator permissions.
Q: How does Zeigo Activate generate customized decarbonization roadmaps?
The platform’s recommendation engine uses user inputs, such as site type (e.g., office, factory), geographic location, energy usage, system types, and energy spend, to develop tailored decarbonization plans. Over 150 recommendations are available across four categories:
